Today in class we did the following:

1. Test Corrections, Irregular Plural nouns review

2. Vocabulary words 1 – 6, Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest

3. Homework: Write vocabulary words 1 – 6 three times, defintions once.

Week 3 Vocabulary – Short Definitions

Story: Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest

 

1.   outrun (v.): to run or move faster than something

2.   tide (s) (n): movement of the oceans caused by the Sun and the Moon

3.   desert (n.): area of very dry land; often covered in sand and very hot

4.   erupt/ erupted (v.): to send out rocks, lava in a sudden explosion

5.   waterfall (n.): an area where water falls from a high place

6.   peak (n.): the very top of a mountain

7.   average (adj.): a number that is calculated by adding quantities together and then dividing the total by the number of quantities

8.   depth (n.): a distance below the surface

9.   Expository (adj.):

10.                record holder (n.):  a person who holds the record for something

11.                unique (adj.): One of a kind

12.                wonder (n.): something amazing; something that inspires awe

13.                jungle (n.): a place with lots of vegetation and wildlife, often in tropical areas

14.                pour (v.): to rain hard; to make liquid come out of a container

15.                freezing (adj.): to be very, very cold; to reach 0 Degrees C.

16.                trench (n.):  a long, narrow hole in the ocean floor

17.                mile (n.): a measure of distance equal to around 1.6km

18.                mighty (adj.): very powerful

19.                freshwater (n.): water found in rivers, lakes, ponds, etc. Contains no salt

20.                contain (v.): to have within

21.                combined (v.): mixed together

22.                sea level (n.):  the level of the surface of the sea especially at its mean position midway between mean high and low water

23.                base (n.): the bottom of something considered as its support

24.                record (v.): to set down in writing

25.                inch (n.): a measure of distance equal to 2.5cm
