2) Homework: Reading street pages 129 - 143, study vocabulary list.

Week 8 Definitions

The Night the Moon Fell

 

1.   coral (n.): the hard skeleton of tiny sea animals.

2.   sway/swayed (v.): to move gently from side to side

3.     canyon (n.): a deep valley with rock sides

4.   sliver (n.): a small, thin piece that has been cut, torn, or broken from something larger.

5.     balance (n.): having your weight spread evenly so you don’t fall

6.     whisper/whispered (v.): to talk in a very quiet voice

7.     rattle/rattled (v.): to hit something repeatedly or shake a lot to make a noise

8.   myth (n.): an idea or story that is believed by many people, but that is not true                                      

9.     hum/hummed (v.): to make a low continuous noise

10.                twinkle/twinkled (v.): a sparkle or flicker of light

11.doze/dozed (v.): to sleep lightly for a short period of time

12.                hush/hushed (v.): to make someone quiet, calm, or still.

13.peaceful (adj.): quiet and calm

14.                shake/shook (v.): to move, sometimes violently, back and forth

15.nearby (adv.): close; not far away

16.startle/startled (v.): to surprise

17. splash/splashed (v.): to move or hit water in a noisy way

18.                 shimmer/shimmered (v.): to shine with a light that seems to move                                                                                                   

19.                bow/bowed (v.): to bend forward at the neck or waist as a formal way of greeting

21.                dart/darted (v.): to move quickly; dash

22.                amigo (n.): friend in Spanish

23.    roar/roared (v.): to make a sound like a wild animal like a lion

24.                glow/glowed (v.): to shine with bright light

4.   sniffle/sniffled (v.): to sniff through your nose and make a noise

6.   miss/missed (v.): to notice when something/someone is not there

7.   sigh/sighed (v.): to breathe out with a long breath because of being sad, tired, or relieved

8.   high (adj.): far above the ground

9.   feel/felt (v.): to sense or be aware of; to find out about by the sense of touch

10.                dark (adj.): having little or no light

11.                kelp (n.): a type of brown seaweed

12.                glisten/glistened (v.): to shine or sparkle with reflected light

24.                loosen/loosened (v.): to make loose; to release
