Today in class we learned vocabulary words 21 - 24 from Week 6. The story was Penguin Chick.

Week 6 Vocabulary – Penguin Chick


  1. stomach: the organ in the body that digests food.

  2. down: small and very soft feathers.

  3. fluffy: light and soft or airy.

  4. poke: to push something thin at something.

  5. chick: baby bird.

  6. whistle: to make a high sound by blowing through your lips or teeth.

  7. trumpet: a brass wind instrument.

  8. echo: the repeating of a sound caused by the bouncing of sound waves from a surface.

  9. cuddle: to hold and hug in a tender and loving way.

  10. steer: to cause to move in a certain direction.

  11. crack: to break apart with a snapping sound.

  12. Instead: as an alternative or replacement; in place of something else

  13. nursery: a room where babies sleep or play.

  14. rush: to go quickly; hurry.

  15. slippery: having a slick surface that is difficult to move upon without sliding.

  16. junior: younger in age.

  17. enough: in the amount needed.

  18. waterproof: designed to prevent water from entering.

  19. feather: the soft and light parts of a bird that grows from the skin and covers the body.

  20. flap (flapped): to move quickly up and down.

  21. swallow: to cause food to go from the mouth to the stomach.

  22. hatch: to come out of an egg

  23. endangered: close to extinction

  24. concern: a nervous or worried feeling
