 Dear Parents,

Today in class, students' did the following:

1) Vocabulary words 11 - 20

2) The Night the Moon Fell

3) Homework: Write vocabulary words 11 - 20 and the definitions one time each.

There will be a unit test this Friday. The test will consist of spelling, definition matching, fill-in-the-blanks, compound words, and comprehension questions about the story.

Week 9 Vocabulary Definitions

The Night the Moon Fell

 

1.   plot (n.): the series of events in a story

2.   theme (n.): the main subject or topic

3.   visualize/visualized (v.): to form a picture of in the mind

4.   sniffle/sniffled (v.): to sniff through your nose and make a noise

5.   round (adj.): circular in shape

6.   miss/missed (v.): to notice when something/someone is not there

7.   sigh/sighed (v.): to breathe out with a long breath because of being sad, tired, or relieved

8.   high (adj.): far above the ground

9.   feel/felt (v.): to sense or be aware of; to find out about by the sense of touch

10.                dark (adj.): having little or no light

11.                kelp (n.): a type of brown seaweed

12.                glisten/glistened (v.): to shine or sparkle with reflected light

13.                gallop/galloped (v.): to run fast like a horse

14.                gently (adv.): softly

15.                wave/waved (v.): to move your hand in a repeated motion

16.                lavender (adj.): a plant of the mint family with pale purple flowers

17.                gasp/gasped (v.): to breathe strongly because of shock, surprise, fear

18.                brush/brushed (v.): to clean with a brush; to remove something with your hand, finger, etc.

19.                brave (adj.): unafraid; showing no fear

20.                sway/swayed (v.): to swing back and forth or from side to side; rock

21.                roll/rolled (v.): to move by turning over and over

22.                tickle/tickled (v.): to try to make (someone) laugh by lightly touching a very sensitive part of the body with your fingers, a feather, etc.

23.                wiggle/wiggled (v.): to move with quick, twisting motions from side to side

24.                loosen/loosened (v.): to make loose; to release
